According to NBC New York, Yelp!, the San Francisco based review site just got called out again by restaurateurs who claim the site uses mafia like tactics to get businesses to advertise.
This news comes on the heels of New York Times article that questions just how real the reviews are.
"A one-star review of Tart, a Los Angeles restaurant, illustrates the impasse. “The turkey meatloaf was gritty and cold and I waited 45 minutes for my second $28 margarita,” one reviewer wrote in January. The restaurant’s owner, Peter Picataggio, complained to Yelp that he does not serve turkey meatloaf and the most expensive margarita on the menu is $25."
Jeremy Stoppelman, Yelp's CEO went into immediate damage control and a full out media blitz.
Mr. Stoppelman took a direct aim at East Bay Express' reporter Kathleen Richards for using anonymous sources for an article she wrote claming that Yelp! extorts businesses by promising good reviews if a business advertises with them and bad reviews if the business decides not to play ball. Lashing out, Stoppelman questioned Kathleen's use of anonymous sources in the article.
Not one to miss the irony, "Richards fired off the next shot this week by directly challenging the CEO. She called him a hypocrite for questioning the use of anonymous sources when his site is based on anonymous sources, free to write whatever they like without being challenged by the business they are reviewing."

When most people think German cuisine they usually also think of German Beer. At Suppenküche even if you don't have an affinity for distilled spirits, if you like German cuisine you'll definitely fall in love with their food.
Suppenküche is a charming German restaurant located in San Francisco's Water Front District. Suppenküche is loved by locals and has a fascinating history (the Weltenburger brewery dates back to its monastery origins in the year 1050!). While deceptively small on the outside, once you come you'll enter into a spacious dining area with high ceilings. Expect deliciously large portions and warm friendly service.
And in the event you do love beer there's no better place in all of San Francisco for an authentic German brew.
