Adding Classifications
Make your menu searchable by assigning classifications to the item. Click the "Category" drop down menu to begin. Cuisine, Course and Category are the three primary Classifications you want to assign to your menu items.

Assigning Classifications makes your restaurant easier to find and is the key factor if you want your restaurant to be recommended.

Classifications Explained:

1. Cuisine:  The characteristic manner or style of cooking; the range of food served in a restaurant; also: ‘the food prepared.’ Common examples: Chicken Marsala, Italian cuisine; Enchiladas Suizas, Mexican cuisine; or Tempura and Gyoza, Japanese cuisine.

Typically most dishes reflect the primary cuisine served by the restaurant. So for example, if you serve Irish food, most your dishes would be classified as Irish in cuisine.

2. Course:  The main course or what we refer to as the entrée, is most often preceded by an appetizer, soup, or salad, and followed by a dessert. For the purpose of framing in the people’s choice or “Flavor 100” we’ve adopted 5 unique categories:  Appetizers, Entrees, Sides, Desserts, and Drinks making “Classification” the easiest to assign.

Assigning a classification to each menu item (Delete: a course) enables more diners to find you and makes you eligible to win (Delete: means that your items can be voted for) Best Entree, Best Appetizer, Best Dessert and Best Signature Drink in the “Flavor 100”.

3. Category:  Your menu “Category” is simply the food item itself, minus your particular branding.  As an example, you’re assigning a Mushroom Burger a category. Your menu description may be "Bob's Famous Burger". Your Classification Category: "hamburgers" or "burgers" - because a Mushroom Burger is a type of burger. If you were serving Lamb Shank your Classification Category would be “lamb”.

This approach simplifies the search process and enables users to quickly find your restaurant by simply entering a “food category” (tacos, burgers, salads, soups, cake, shrimp, steak, fish etc.).  A faster, easier search experience generates more traffic, higher sales, and happy customers – all based on simply using “categories” as a search enabler.

How to assign Classifications to menu items.
To add Classifications first select a category from the drop down list. The Description field is a description of the category.

Example: you're looking to assign a Cuisine Classification to Chicken Tacos.
1. Select Cuisine from the Category drop down menu.
2. Type in, "Mexican" in the open description field. This open description field enables you to search for Classifications
3. After you've entered the Classification that reflects your menu item, click Filter to search for that Classification.
4. Mexican cuisine will show up as an option in the lower left hand window. Select Mexican and click the top button with the arrows that point to the right. If you make a mistake you can simply select the cuisine from the right hand window and click the bottom button with the arrows that point to the left to remove the Classification.

Assigning Classifications to your menu items only takes a moment, but this important step insures that your menu items will be found by local diners and recommended to new potential guests.
